Drying your hands with a damp tea towel can cause food poisoning

A study conducted by the University of Mauritius has warned that drying your hands using a damp tea towel can cause food poisoning.

The study found that 37% of tea towels used for more than one job over a month tested positive for E.coli. Dr Suheela Biranjia-Hurdoyal said "Humid towels and multipurpose usage of kitchen towels should be discouraged. Bigger families with children and elderly members should be especially vigilant to hygiene in the kitchen.". E.coli can be deadly for the elderly, or those with weaker immune systems.
