Researchers have discovered that an E.coli outbreak in 2016 could be traced back to Italy, and was likely transported to the UK via bagged mixed salad leaves sold in supermarkets.

The outbreak lead to 165 infections in the UK, of which most were female. 66 people were hospitalised, 9 people developed hemorrhagic uraemic syndrome, and 2 died.
