Fears over new bird flu

A new strain of bird flu with a 38% mortality rate has been identified as a potential pandemic outbreak. Professor Jonathan Van-Tam, deputy chief medical officer for England said that that the government was gathering as much intelligence on the virus as possible in order to minimise its effect.

Scientists are also on high alert after the WHO (World Health Organisation) warned of 'Disease X', representative of the threat of a new pathogen which could be far more destructive than those before it.
